A large pizza feeds 2 to 3 grown-ups with normal appetites (8 slices at 3 each), 2 if they’re starving, 4 light eaters, or 4 kids. When the pizza is one dish among several, it goes further.
Why medium and large pizzas can have the same number of slices
Many pizzerias cut a medium and a large into the same number of slices; the large slices are simply bigger. Papa John’s, for one, cuts both into 8. So a large gets you more pizza, not more slices. If you’re counting slices for a crowd, an extra-large gets you more pieces per box: we count 12 in the calculator.

How many slices are in an extra-large pizza?
We count 12 slices in an extra-large. Some pizzerias cut theirs into fewer, bigger pieces (Papa John’s cuts its extra-large into 10), so ask if it matters.
How many slices are in a medium pizza?
We count 8, the same as a large, and 6 in a small. That makes a medium enough for 2 to 3 grown-ups.
How many large pizzas do I need?
