How we got to 3

6 grown-ups at 3 slices each need 18 slices. We add 10% so nobody’s left eyeing the last one, which makes 20. A large pizza has 8 slices, which is what Pizza Hut and Papa John’s cut theirs into, so 20 ÷ 8 = 2.5, and we round up to 3.

How to split 3 pizzas

We’d go 1 cheese, 1 pepperoni and 1 veggie or specialty. Cheese is the safe bet for kids and picky eaters, and the veggie pizzas cover anyone who skips meat. If you know your crowd, move pizzas between the three; the total stays the same.

Ordering for a game night, a poker table or a family dinner

Game night pizza gets eaten between turns, one-handed, so put the boxes on a side table, hand out napkins with the dice, and keep the board out of reach of greasy fingers. 3 large pizzas is 24 slices, about 4 each, which covers a long game.

At a poker table the rule is simple: poker chips go on the felt, potato chips and pizza don’t. For a family dinner of six, let each kid pick the topping on one pizza and give the grown-ups the rest; with 3 to choose, nobody’s favorite is the only option.
